Home | Energy-efficiency tax credits make a comeback this year | Question: Would I get any benefit from adding insulation?

Question: Do I need to remove the paper?

John writes from Fairfield, Connecticut: "If adding more insulation to attic floor do you need to remove paper on insulation? The first insulation has paper on one side."

Answer: Correct. We recommend using unfaced insulation when adding Fiberglas™ insulation to existing insulation. If the product you have has a facing, it can be freely slashed to defeat the vapor barrier instead of removing it.
