Question: Can I pack in insulation to prevent air infiltration?
Patrick writes from Leonardtown, Maryland: "I have a propane insert fireplace, (Heat N Glo) installed. This was a new construction home, during the winter months I can feel a cool draft coming from underneath the fireplace. It is coming from where the gas supply line hooks up to the fireplace. Can I use the pink insulation to pack around this hole to prevent cold air infiltration?"
Answer: Yes. We recommend using unfaced insulation for this application. Be sure not to pack it too tight because compression will reduce R-value.
