Question: Is this possible without putting up sheetrock?

Robert writes from Ellington, Connecticut: "I have a 1840's house. Basement height is seven feet. The basement is unfinished and will remain that way. I would like to put some insulation on the basement ceiling in one section of the house (Living room is above). This section of basement is my wood working area. Is this possible without me putting up sheetrock on the ceiling? What do you suggest?"

Answer: Yes. We recommend using Kraft-faced R-25 Fiberglas™ insulation. The vapor retarder should be installed up toward the heated room. This will leave the PINK side down, which is not required to be covered.
